Indeed they are--and they come to us via the Tao te Ching and other ancient sources. Which is the point: Yoda represents our older selves/tradition in stark contrast to the shiny new automation of the present/future. Our humanity is ironically more visible in Yoda (who only looks exotic) than in Darth Vader or most of the humans in the film!
